accommodation notice!

For those who joined us last year, you’ll be happy to know that this time, our accommodation will be in a real brick-and-mortar building, complete with an actual roof, walls, windows, and doors!

That said, please remember we’ll still be in Lesotho, and we’ve secured the best possible lodging while preserving the authentic Lesotho experience. It’s important to note that while comfortable, this will by no means be a 5-star experience, but it will add to the adventure!

THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND!

Please note that breakfast and dinner are included in your package, along with a special braai on Saturday night. Dinners for the remaining nights of the tour will be at your own expense. There’s a nearby restaurant where we’ll dine together on the other two evenings.

Additionally, any extra snacks and nutrition during your rides will also be your responsibility.

We will do our best to stop at a fuel station each day for top-ups, but we strongly recommend bringing extra fuel to ensure you can keep moving without interruptions.

While we won’t have a dedicated technician on the trip, our team will be ready to assist with any basic repairs. However, it’s your responsibility to bring sufficient spare parts for any potential emergency situations. Being prepared will help ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience.

Safety is a top priority for us. Please keep in mind that we will be traveling through very remote and rural areas, so it’s essential to stay aware of your surroundings throughout the weekend. We strongly advise against taking any unnecessary risks to ensure the safety and enjoyment of everyone on the trip.

To safely transport your motorcycle, start by choosing the right method, whether it’s a trailer, truck, or professional transport service. Secure the bike using quality tie-down straps at multiple anchor points, ensuring it’s upright and balanced without over-tightening. Protect your bike by using a cover for open transport and placing padding on contact points to prevent damage. Before loading, inspect your motorcycle, checking for fluid leaks, disconnecting the battery, and securing any loose parts. Make sure your transport vehicle can handle the motorcycle’s weight and that its tires, lights, and signals are in good condition. Finally, drive carefully, avoiding sudden movements, and stop periodically to check that the bike remains securely in place.

When traveling in Lesotho, it’s essential to be prepared for varying road conditions, including gravel and mountainous terrain, so a 4×4 vehicle is recommended. Keep in mind that many roads, especially in rural areas, may not be well-marked, so having a GPS or offline maps is crucial. Weather can change quickly in the mountains, so pack appropriately and always carry extra food, water, and warm clothing. Ensure your vehicle is in good condition, with up-to-date licenses, as border and police checks are common. It’s also advisable to have local currency on hand since card payments might not be widely accepted in remote areas. Finally, be mindful of driving at night due to the risk of livestock or pedestrians on the roads.

When preparing for Lesotho’s weather, be ready for sudden changes, especially in mountainous regions where temperatures can drop rapidly. Layering your clothing is key, allowing you to adjust to varying conditions throughout the day. Waterproof gear, including a good jacket and sturdy boots, is essential, as rain and snow are possible, even outside winter months. Always carry extra warm clothing, gloves, and a hat, as wind chill can make temperatures feel much colder. Sunscreen and sunglasses are also important due to the strong sun at higher altitudes. Lastly, pack emergency supplies like food, water, and a first aid kit, as extreme weather can lead to unexpected delays or road closures.

When preparing your bike for riding in Lesotho, ensure it’s in top condition to handle the rough and varied terrain. Start by checking the tires for adequate tread and pressure, and consider using dual-sport or off-road tires for better grip. Inspect the brakes, suspension, and chain for wear, as the mountainous roads can be demanding. Install a sturdy skid plate to protect the engine from rocks and debris. Carry essential tools and spare parts, such as tubes, levers, and a tire repair kit, as breakdowns in remote areas can be challenging. Make sure your lights, including head and tail lights, are functioning well for visibility in low-light conditions. Finally, pack weather-appropriate gear and ensure that your luggage is securely fastened to the bike, keeping weight balanced to maintain control on steep or uneven surfaces.

Staying safe on a riding trip in Lesotho, especially in remote areas with limited medical access, requires careful planning and caution. Always inform someone of your route and expected return time before heading out. Equip yourself with a well-stocked first aid kit and ensure you know how to use its contents. Wear appropriate protective gear, including a helmet, gloves, and padded clothing, to minimize injuries in case of falls. Avoid risky maneuvers or challenging terrain beyond your skill level, and ride at a safe speed. Carry a reliable means of communication, like a satellite phone, in case of emergencies. Be mindful of local wildlife and road conditions, and always be prepared for sudden weather changes. Keeping these precautions in mind will help you enjoy a safer and more secure riding experience.

While we’ll provide your main meals, it’s crucial to plan ahead for snacks and hydration during your rides. Bring a variety of high-energy snacks like nuts, granola bars, and dried fruits to keep your energy up. Hydration is key, so pack enough water bottles or a hydration pack to stay well-hydrated throughout the day. Consider bringing electrolyte tablets or sports drinks to replenish lost minerals. For longer rides, include easy-to-eat, non-perishable foods such as beef jerky or trail mix. Ensure you have a lightweight, durable container to carry your snacks and drinks, and be mindful of food safety by keeping perishables properly stored. Having these supplies on hand will help you stay energized and comfortable as you tackle the challenging terrain.

GPS maps will be provided, and we’ll assist with uploading them at the venue. However, it’s important to ensure your GPS device has fully charged batteries and consider bringing a spare GPS as a backup in case of emergencies. This way, you’ll stay on track and navigate confidently through the terrain without interruptions.
